The Pitch
If you’re reading this it’s likely you’ve watched and liked Series 1 of How To Date A Magical Creature. Series 1 is a proof of concept for a series that can and should exist on on the small screen with a ready-made audience hungry for a funny show.
Everyone wants to commission the next Friends, Big Bang Theory and Family Guy and endlessly renew the show until the cast are in zimmer frames and assisted-living homes… Well here’s why How To Date A Magical Creature could be the concept that just does that….
Genre: Congrats, it’s a Comedy!
To answer your marketing department’s first question as what kind of show this is: it’s a comedy. How To Date A Magical Creature may feature magical creatures such as vampires and zombies but it is not a horror comedy. The series has Medusa and Santa but it is not a fantasy. At its heart, How To Date A Magical Creature is a comedy show. Obviously there might be influences from other genres, but we all know that sci-fi comedies or horror comedies are either:
- Not funny.
- Too niche.
- Worse: not funny AND too niche.
So to be clear, How To Date A Magical Creature is first and foremost a comedy show. Everything else follows from that…
Tone: Light and Fluffy
Imagine The Orville meets What We Do In The Shadows. The show is light and fluffy and doesn’t take itself seriously. Or at all for that matter…
What it aims to be:
How To Date A Magical Creature aims to be smart, silly and surprising.
