Dating in the 21st century is no different for a magical creature than it is for a ‘normal’ human being. The same trails, tribulations and challenges exist. The Leprechaun, although charming and independently wealthy, struggles to find women who will date him because of his stature. His hipster beard seems to make no difference at all. The Mermaid has her problems too. Living on the south coast means she can swim everyday but more recently people have become suspicious about the amount of ships that have run aground on Worthing beach. Moving to the big city can she change her image perhaps find her Mr Right in London? And then there’s Alan, the Centaur, tired of always attracting partners who are interested in just one thing, and keen to shake the misconception that all centaurs are into is barbarism and unbridled chaos. Alan is an accountant for goodness sake!
‘How To Date A Magical Creature’ delves into the love lives and everyday lives of these extraordinary characters, the pitfalls and highlights of dating when you’re mystical and misunderstood, whilst also following the people that are looking to date them. Centred around dating agency ‘Love Is Magic’, this mockumentary series will send up reality TV shows and documentaries along with spoofing popular dating formats such as Love Island, First Dates and The Undateables.
‘How To Date A Magical Creature’ has already been tried and tested with a successful web series and sold-out live show created by award-winning writer and producer David Ruby but we want to expand the worlds these characters exist in, creating new long form episodes – from Clive and his zombie boyfriend Greg who, like many other loving couples, are trying some relationship therapy to Santa, who is currently going through a crippling divorce!
